Dinner late at night

Why You Shouldn’t Have Dinner After 9 p.m.

Is it bad to eat late after 9 pm? This is an important question scientists raised. Everyone is conscious about their health, especially physical health. The importance of what we eat in our daily lives has more significance than we think. A scientific study finds a potential connection between eating dinner after 9 pm and an increased risk of stroke. Through this blog, we will highlight the importance of why you shouldn’t have dinner after 9 p.m. according to a study. Here we will also suggest some useful tips for sustaining a healthy balanced eating schedule for you.

Linked between late dinner and health

Let’s assume, you go to bed at 10 O’clock, three hours before sleeping, and at seven O’clock you are done with eating. No more nutrition, no more calories, no more fats! Why? We have to turn off our digestive system. If not then the energy, after putting food in the mouth, gets woken backed up and ramped up to break down food, which is not good. Though eating late may feel harmless, relaxing or sleeping after eating dinner may cause an increasing risk of cardiac diseases like stroke. People who eat late are 28% more likely to suffer a stroke or transient ischaemic attack.

If you are a late eater then your body may raise your blood pressure and sugar level. This can damage blood vessels, cause clotting of blood and lead to heart attacks and strikes. Eating dinner too late! Oh My God you will mess up with the circadian rhythms of your body and can put the entire body’s homeostasis at risk.

What did the study declare?

scientific study

  • Nature Communication published that dinner after 9pm didn’t increase the risk of coronary heart problems. But this will be associated with an 8% rise in the chance of stroke or mini stroke.
  • During the research at the University of Pennsylvania, the group of adults ate 3 meals and 2 snacks regularly between 8 a.m. and 7am.  After 8 weeks they switched to eating late in the morning and at 11 p.m. The one who ate late gained weight and increased levels of sugar, insulin, cholesterol, and triglycerides. All these changes can affect the heart.
  • From the University of Sorbonne Paris Nord the study’s senior author, Dr Bernard Srour said: “ Like many people, my grandmother used to warn me not to have dinner too late, and this study suggests there may be some sense in that advice.” He further warned that “People who eat dinner late because they think they are too busy to do so earlier may increase their risk of health problems,”
  • The experts believe that a certain period of overnight fasting can be beneficial to health. It will reduce the risk of stroke to 7%. But one thing to remember is that this result will only be beneficial to those who eat dinner before 9 pm and have breakfast at standard time, instead of those who had late dinner and then ate late breakfast the next day.

Women In Spotlight

why you shouldn't have dinner (title)

Warning for Women readers! It pays off in the health sense, the metabolic sense, and in the weight maintenance and loss sense to not ingest food after 9 p.m. The habit of late eating which are the connecting barriers between meal time and heart issues was largely seen in women as almost 80% of study volunteers were them. In this way, you, the women readers, may gain weight or increase blood pressure. We all know that normally women don’t pay attention to their eating schedule because of household chores and they often neglect meal time. But remember your body needs 3-4 hours to digest food in the stomach. Due to this, there have been more increased rates of stroke in women as compared to men.
